We were watching a number of bills in the Utah Legislature this year that are important in efforts to preserve liberty and protect free markets through regulatory reform. We’ve analyzed and scored the floor votes of lawmakers on those issues that matter most to us.
Interestingly enough, floor votes are only a part of the picture, and that is more true this year than we’ve noticed before. We saw some legislators working really hard to look great on paper, on issues their constituents cared about, while at the same time working even harder behind the scenes to kill those very bills they claimed to support in public. But it’s difficult to fairly and accurately measure those efforts one way or the other.
Our analysis includes only the actual votes on the floor of either the House or Senate, and the bills that were a part of the assessment are listed below.
